Life Change Academy has been selected as a finalist for the Oklahoma Nonprofit Excellence (ONE) Awards in the Sports and Recreation category.

The fifth annual ONE Awards, sponsored by the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofits, will take place at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, on April 14, 2012. The event serves to honor and recognize some of the best nonprofits in the state.   The Life Change Ballroom Dancers are scheduled to perform as entertainment at the event.  These dancers (ages 11-16) form a troupe compiled from various schools across the city.  These dancers represent Life Change Academy as they perform 15-18 times/year across the state.

Out of over 65 organizations nominated for this year’s awards, only 24 were named finalists.  Awards are presented to a winner and two finalists in each of the following nine categories Arts & Humanities - Community - Education - Health Services - Self-Sufficiency - Seniors - Sports & Recreation - Youth Development.

The winners in each category are awarded $7,500, and two finalists in each category receive $5,000.  At the conclusion of the program, one nonprofit is selected as the overall winner and receives $10,000 for its organization.  A total of almost $150,000 will be awarded to non-profits that evening. “We are so very grateful to the members of the ONE Awards selection commission for this nomination and the attention it has created for us,” says director, Cindy Pipkin.  “And, it’s a perfect tribute to all the dedicated instructors and volunteers of this organization who make such a positive difference in the lives of the children in our community.”

“The finalists are selected for recognition on the basis of standards of excellence,” said J. Jerry Dickman, Chairman of the ONE Awards Selection Commission. “They represent some of the best non-profits in Oklahoma."
